I have been working my butt off to get to as many comic cons as I can recently (pictures can be seen on the Fat Cat Funnies Facebook page:[link]). I am still working on Dime Box Comics (a collection of public domain superhero stories) and the last issue of Small Town Type. As I have done more shows and seen what all the amazing folks in artists alleys are doing I decided that there is something else I can do to help people out. I know how much it costs to make books, and if you have any extra cash, how much it costs to commission any artwork. Starting my birthday this year I will offer my services free of charge for any cover to any independent comic. There are a few rules, and I don't think that they are at all unreasonable.
1) It has to be published on a completed comic with a minimum print run of 50 books
2) I would like 5-10 copies for my portfolio and to show people
3) There can be no tight deadlines. I work full-time and I make my own comics, and turnarounds will vary. Some people will get their pieces in 5 or 6 days, and others it may be a few weeks.
I hope that I can help more people out, and all I want to do is strengthen independent comics. Maybe I will be overrun with requests, or maybe this will finally prove once and for all no one really checks out my deviantart page except my ladyfriend and my pals at the comic shop up the block. In any case this is legit, and I will do everything I can to help folks.
Comic-on.
Ian
